Who to Love

Every true sports fan has their favorite teams or athletes in every sport, it keeps us interested to pick a side. Well I have been living these past few years somehow with a favorite team in on of the major sports...the NBA. I've never been a big fan of the NBA, at least not the like MLB or NFL. I'm crazy about hockey but I do love the Red Wings because really who else is there to like, nobody thats who and Detroit is representing my homestate. MLB I love the Cubs thanks to my cousin Mike and when I was little there was the great home run race of 1998 between Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa, I liked Sosa's salute after every home run into the WGN camera. My dad liked the Dolphins told me his favorite team ever was the 72' undefeated team and Dan Marino is favorite player of all-time.

So it's bout that time I decided what team should be my favorite team in the NBA so I narrowed down the league to 12 possible contendors for my basketball heart.

New York Knicks: They just pulled off a deal giving them a lineup headlined by Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudimire and Chauncey Billups that sounds good to me.

Chicago Bulls: I like Carlos Boozer and I liked Joahkim Noah when he was at Florida and Derrick Rose is fun to watch, they are in contention.

Detroit Pistons: Homestate Bad Boys attitude, Tayshaun Prince and Big Ben Wallace along with Stuckey they got a lot going.

Atlanta Hawks: Once bad now good, Joe Johnson and Al Horford can be fun to watch, why not Atlanta.

Orlando Magic: Dwight Howard is entertaining and I like Hedu Turkoglu and Jameer Nelson. Can't forget about downtown JJ Reddick. Magic look good.

Utah Jazz: Deron Williams, Mehmet Okur, Andrei Kirelinko and Al Jefferson. Anybody remember when Raja Bell got in Kobe's grill once apon a time. They could be fun to root for, I'm looking at you Hicks.

Portland Trail Blazers: Brandon Roy is good and not talked about too much, along with LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Fernandez, what if Oden wasnt hurt all the time, who knows maybe this is my team.

Oklahoma City Thunder: There are new and they are pretty good, gave the Lakers a run last season, along with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, liked seeing Serge Ibaka in the dunk contest, looks good!

San Antonio Spurs: Fundamentals Tim Duncan, Manu Ginoblli and Tony Parker win year in and year out and never disappoint, it could be easy to like a team like that.

New Orleans Hornets: CP3 Chris Paul gotta love it! Along with David West and Emeka Okafur I could get used to green and purple.

Dallas Mavericks: Dirk, Peja, Jason Terry, Kidd and Shawn Marion. Not to forget an owner who wanted to be the owner of the Cubs, he is fan maybe I should be too.

Los Angeles Clippers: Blake Griffin's dunks every game and is the definition of young talent, Baron Davis is a solid player, lets not forget CMU's own Chris Kamen, maybe, they arent that good now but they are young.

So who is it going to be, we'll see!

It's in the Air Part 6 NL West

Here we go the final division breakdown, NL West provided us the last years champions the San Francisco Giants....can they repeat? After looking over the rosters each team looks pretty good.

1. San Francisco Giants
They have experience, they are proven and they are the best in the league till shown otherwise, oh and lets not forget they have Brian Wilson and his beard coming in to close the game. Tim Lincecum is the ace of what is a good rotation, with Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez and Barry Zito who looked good for the start of the season last year, young Madison Bumgarner is also in the rotation now. The pen we know about Brian Wilson coming in for the save, but what about before him. Sergio Romo appeared in 68 games last year striking 70 and recording 21 holds and Santiago Casilla appreaed in ten less games while recording a 1.95 ERA, 11 holds, and 56 strikeouts. Buster Posey is good behind the plate, Aubrey Huff is solid at first, Freddy Sanchez is back at second, veteran Miguel Tejada is at short and the young Kung-Fu Panda Pablo Sandoval is at third. Veteran utility man Mark DeRosa is good in right, Andres Torres is in center and Cody Ross in in left. They are still really good and can be Phillies biggest challenge.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers
They got rid of Manny Ramirez late last season and I think that will play a big benefit this season, they team looks improved and the rotation has a mix of young and veteran starters. Starting with young Clayton Kershaw (Former Great Lakes Loon) who has a nice fastball and should of recorded a better record last year if not for poor run support in his games (13-10) 2.91 ERA. Behind Kershaw is another young starter Chad Billingsley, behind him is veteran Ted Lilly, Hiroki Kuroda is behind Lilly and is probably the low part of the five and Chad Garland is the fifth starter. Reliever Hong-Chih Kuo and closer Jonathan Broxton headline the bullpen Kuo recorded 73 strikeouts while posting an ERA of 1.20 and 20 holds, Broxton in 64 is looking to bounce back from a poor season last year. The Dodgers have two catchers who are coming off bad seasons at the plate but have been good before, veteran Rod Barajas should get the start but look for former Ray Dionner Navarro to get quality time. Lots of veterans in the infield with James Loney at first, Juan Uribe at second, Casey Blake at third and Rafeal Furcal at shortstop. The outfield has five players that could be helpful and makes a deep team with the starters looking to be Jay Gibbons in left, Matt Kemp in center, the clutch Andre Either in right, be looking for Marcus Thames and Tony Gwynn Jr. to get some time as well.

3. Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have been pretty good the last few years and even made it the the World Series a few years ago only to lose to the Boston Red Sox. Last year thier pitcher Ubaldo Jimmenez started a trend of no-hitters throughout the league. Jimmenez is back as the ace, and that is about it for the Rockies as far as starters go. The bullpen looks good though with Matt Belisle, Rafael Betancourt and some unproven young talent that if they preform well will give the Rockies a major boost to help the rotation. Closing is 2005 rookie of the year Hutson Street. Chris Iannetta is behind the plate, Todd Helton is back for another year at first, Jose Lopez is a hole at second and needs to step up, Troy Tulowitski is a good shortstop and Ian Stewart is good at third. Carlos Gonzalez showed off his bat last season hitting .336 and 34 home runs hopefully he brings back that production, Dexter Fowler is in center and Seth Smith is in right. Two young players who also need to bring it if the Rockies are to be successful.

4. San Diego Padres
These guys were a suprise last year as they gave the Giants a run at first place missing it by just two games. While they wont catch anybody by suprise this time around. Mat Latos and Aaron Harang are the focul points in the rotation, while the pen needs to find that go to guy and closing is Heath Bell who was very good last year with an ERA of 1.93, 47 saves and 86 strikeouts. Nick Hudley is catching, Brad Hawpe is a good first baseman, Orlando Hudson is good at second, Jason Bartlett is a good shortstop him and Hudson are good in the middle infield and Chase Headley is at thrid. The outfield has Ryan Ludwick at left and young Cameron Maybin in centerfield and has Will Venable in right. We'll see if the Padres from last year was just fluck or are they back as an organization.

5. Arizona Diamondbacks
Kirk Gibson took over what was one of the worst teams in the NL and really did some good things, we'll see if that can continue for the D-Backs. Ian Kennedy is the ace, with Joe Saunders, Zack Duke and the thrower of the best one hitter ever Armando Gallaraga in the rotation as well that is improved. Aaron Heilman should be good as the main reliever I think in the pen and JJ Putz is a solid closer 65 strikeotus and 14 saves with a 2.83 ERA last year when he wans't closing for the White Sox...and he went to Michigan which is always a plus. Miguel Montero is good behind the plate, not sure about Juan Miranda at first, Kelly Johnson was good at the plate last year and is at second base, Stephen Drew is a good young shortstop who is making a name for himself in the league and Melvin Mora is a good veteran at third base. Xavier Nady is in from his latest venture in Chicago, he was going to be playing first then got shipped out after Carlos Pena came in and Arizona will put him in left where he belongs, Chris Young is an exciting centerfielder and Justin Upton is good out in right. They are improved from last season but that isn't saying much.

It's in the Air Part 5 NL Central

The NL Central was a suprise last year when Joey Votto and the Cincinnati Reds took over. The rest of the league has improved and the Reds have grown up, should be tight race for first place. I think 4 out of the 6 teams will finish with winning records.

1. Cincinnati Reds
I believe the Reds have what it takes to repeat as NL Central champions. They are young and strong, they will be a force in the National League entirely let alone the Central division. The rotation is good with Edison Volquez as the ace, Bronson Arroyo is number two bringing a veteran into the rotation, Johnny Cueto is thrid, while Homer Baily and Travis Wood finish out the rotation, Arroyo is the only one of the five over 30 (33). The bullpen is alright with Aroldis Chapman headlining the pen with Francisco Cordero closing. Ramon Hernandez is behind the plate with a .297 batting average from a year ago, with the franchise leader Joey Votto at first, Brandon Phillips at second, Scott Rolen at third and Paul Janish at shortstop. The outfield has Johnny Gomes in left, Drew Stubbs in center and Jay Bruce in right.

2. St. Louis Cardinals
I think the only thing that is keeping the Cardinals from taking first is the distraction of Albert Pujols. The rotation is still solid with Carpenter, Wainwright and Garcia leading the way, the bullpen is decent but they still have closer Ryan Franklin. Name that Molina time...Yadier Molina is behind the plate for the Cardinals again, obviously Albert Pujols in at first. Skip Shumaker at second, Ryan Theriot at shortstop and David Freese at third should do well, especially Theriot he is underrated as far as shortstops go, the outfield has Matt Holliday in left, Colby Rasmus in center and veraten Lance Berkman is in right. The team has a lot of veteran experience.

3. Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers have improved their rotation which has killed them in the last few years, they added dominate Royals pitcher Zach Greinke, Yovani Gallardo is a good number two, Shaun Marcum is good number three and Randy Wolf is a nice number four, Manny Para is the only real highlight of the bullpen besides that there is not much and could really hurt the Brew Crew. Young Jonathan Lucroy is starting at catcher it's his first full season so we'll see how he pans out, Prince Fielder is back at first he will be good like always, Ricky Weeks at second, Yuniesky Betancourt is at shortstop, with Casey McGehee at third, Ryan Braun is back and will be producing, Carlos Gomez needs to step up in center and Cory Hart is in left. Mark Kotsay could get some time in the outfield.

4. Chicago Cubs
They have improved very much but so has everyone else, few question marks they will either be pretty good or not good at all. The Cubs were really good under Mike Quade as he earned the manager spot and hopefully they can continue. Ryan Dempster will be the ace now I think we'll see, Carlos Zambrano was really bad last year till the last part of the season where he was dominate, Matt Garza is in Chi-Town now from Tampa Bay, The Cubs signed Carlos Marmol back to the closing spot, Kerry Wood is back in town and I'm not sure how I feel about that, maybe he can help a young bullpen that has talent. Geovanny Soto is back behind the plate he had a down year last year and hopefully he can get back to his rookie of the year self, Carlos Pena is at first he too came from Tampa Bay and provides a solid left handed bat to the lineup, Blake DeWitt is a big question mark in the infield he needs to prove himself, Starlin Castro is a good young shortstop, Aramis Ramirez is back at third, Alfonso Soriano has been slumping the last two seasons we'll see how he does, Marlon Byrd was a good pick up last year and he is back in center, young Tyler Colvin looks to start in right this year and share time with Fukudome.

5. Houston Astros
This team has holes everywhere. Lets start with pitching that is lead by Wandy Rodriguez and no existing bullpen. Jason Castro is catching, Brett Wallace at first, Bill Hall at second, Clint Barmes at shortstop is the veteran of the infield, Chris Johnson batted .308 last year maybe he can do that again, Carlos Lee is back again in left, Michael Bourn is in center and Hunter Pence is in right field the outfield is whats keeping them out of last.

6. Pittsburgh Pirates
Paul Maholm's 9-15 record and 5.10 ERA is the ace, fantastic for the Pirates...not! They Pirates are bad again and aren't looking any better anytime soon. Catching is Chris Snyder who batted .207 last year, Lyle Overbay is at first and he brings the veteran spot of the team, Neil Walker posted a batting average of .296 last season maybe their is a bright spot, Ronny Cedeno is at short and he can be good, Pedro Alvarez is at third, Jose Tabata batted .299 that is almost .300! Andrew McCutchen is in centerfield is young and good on the bases and Garrett Jones is in right, this team isn't looking good.

It's in the Air Part 4 NL East

The NL East looks like a 1.5 horse race this season...maybe more like 1.333.

1. Philadelphia Phillies
If you are looking for the equivalent to the Miami Heat for baseball look no further then the Philly. They have one of the most dominating rotation in quite a while. Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Roy Oswalt and Joe Blanton. Even their bullpen is good lead by Ryan Madson and JC Romero and Brad Lidge will come in to the close, that is if he even has too because this lineup will produce offense as well. Carlos Ruiz catching, Ryan Howard slugging and improving defensively at first, Chase Utley is a great second baseman, Jimmy Rollins is a premire shortstop now, Polcido Polanco is very good at third, Raul Ibanez is good in left, Shane Victarino is a highlight reel wating to happen and the only question mark really is Domonic Brown in right. This team is a clear early favorite team to win the World Series, I'll get to that another day.

2. Atlanta Braves
These guys is Philly's only real big competition for the NL East title. They have a pretty good rotation with Lowe, Hudson and Jurrjens throwing. The bullpen doesn't really have anyone to right off on, young Craig Kimbrel is closing he could be the next big closer he had 40 strikeouts last year with an ERA of 0.44 in only 21 games. Brian McCann is good behind the plate and can hit, Freddie Freeman is at first and he is a big question mark, Dan Uggla is good at second, Alex Gonzalez is a solid veteran presence at short, and Chipper Jones is supposed to return but don't be suprised to see Martin Prado holding it down in the hot corner, if Chipper can go Prado will be in left, Nate McClouth needs to bring his bat when he starts in centerfield .190 batting average last season wont cut it, and of course Atlanta has their future star Jason Heyward in right.

3. Washington Nationals
They look good, compared to past seasons that is, they wont compete with Atlanta or Philadelphia. Pitching is looking good questions about if Stephan Strasburg will return for opening day but he will be around, until then they will settle with Livan Hernandez as the number one, with veterans Jason Marquis and Tom Gorzelanny. Not much to talk about in the pen while Drew Storen will close for the Nats, last season he appeared in 54 games recording 10 holds and 52 strikeouts. Veteran Pudge is catching, Adam LaRoche is at first, young Danny Espinosa will be at second, Ian Desmond at short is a question, Ryan Zimmerman is back at third as the face of the franchise when Strasburg isn't around, resiliant Rick Ankiel is in left, speedy Nyjer Morgan is in center and Jason Werth is in right. This team is looking pretty good.

4. Florida Marlins
The Marlins have a really good number one in Josh Joshson with decent talent like Chris Volstad who went 12-9 last year behind him. Again not much of a bullpen with Leo Nunez at the closing spot he recorded 30 saves last year. John Buck is a decent catcher and hits pretty well with a batting average of .281 last year, Gaby Sanchez played in 151 games last year and will be starting at first he did put up 85 RBIs and batted .273 last year, Omar Infante is good at second base, Hanley Ramirez is back at short and is good (if he is actually trying), Wes Helms needs to improve his numbers at the plate but is still good at third, Logan Morrison appered in 62 games last year and will start in left after batting a good .283 last year, Chris Coghlan is in center, and Mike Stanton is in right. This team is young with talent they could give the Nats a run for third.

5. New York Metropolitans
The Mets, they have been a laughing stock for a couple years now. If they haven't been blowing late division leads they are have been chilling in the bottom of not only the division but the in the NL. They have zero pitching in the rotation they have Francisco Rodriguez closing but they will be lucky to even get to him in the first place. It is too bad they don't have very good pitching because they have some decent bats with David Wright at third, Jose Reyes at short, Carlos Beltran in center, Jason Bay in left can be pretty good at the plate, Angel Pagan in right batted .290 last year. Daniel Murphy is at second and who knows what he'll bring maybe he is decent, it's the same story at first with Ike Davis at first and Josh Thole behind the plate. We'll see what the Mets can do, maybe they will suprise.

It's In the Air Part 3 AL West

The AL West I predicted dead on last year suprisingly by picking the Texas Rangers to win and go to the World Series. I don't think top or bottom will change but in between I think we'll see a swap in positions.

1. Texas Rangers
Who would thought begininng of last season the Texas Rangers would be going to the World Series...oh wait that was me, but all honestly I just saw a much improved roster and an oppurtunity to look really good by picking them on the off chance they would make it and they did. They resigned hard hitting left fielder Josh Hamilton and that was much needed for this team, young Julio Borbon will be making plays in centerfield, while veteran Nelson Cruz will be in right, Yorvit Torrealba is catching but I would be suprised to see Mike Napoli get his fair share of time behind the plate as well, Mitch Moreland has the starting spot at first base and we'll see how he does in his first full season, Ian Kinsler is one of the best if not the best second baseman right now (he has some competition with Robinson Cano in NY), Elvis Andrus is a young but rising star at shortstop and veteran Adrian Beltre is starting at third, DHing for the Rangers is Michael Young (for now). The rotation is headlined by Colby Lewis but the dangerous part of the rotation comes at the 5 spot with former CY Young winner Brandon Webb. The young Neftali Feliz will be closing, he racked up 40 saves last year.

2. Los Angeles Angles
The Angles were down last season which is unlike the normal contenders but I think they will recover this season, just to celebrate that game winning home run as hard this time. One reason why I believe they will take over the #2 spot is the rotation, it looks pretty good. Starting with Jared Weaver, then Dan Haren, Ervin Santana, Scott Kizmar and Joel Pineiro they are looking strong. Their weakness will be the bullpen and Tiger fans will know why closing is Fernando Rodney he is the star of the pen. On the field they have Jeff Mathis behind the plate but doesn't bring a bat to talk about really, Kendry Morales is back at first after his freak broken leg accident after celebrating a walkoff home run, Howie Kendrick is a good second baseman, Erick Aybar is at short hopefully he can pick up his offense this year, Maicer Izturis is at thrid which isn't much but still a decent fielder, in left is young Peter Bourjos who only played 51 games last season, veteran Vernon Wells is in center, and Torii Hunter is back in rightfield, Veteran Bobby Abreu is DHing this year.

3. Oakland Athletics
The A's were up and down last season, I think they have improved but the only reason they even got second last year was because the Angels were injured. Dallas Braden the guy threw a no-hitter on Mother's Day last year is the star now along with the return of Rich Harden. The also have a decent bullpen with Brian Fuentes coming to Oakland. Kurt Suski is manning the plate for the A's and he is pretty good, Daric Barton is also pretty good and he is working at first, veteran Mark Ellis is at second while little know Cliff Pennington is at short, third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff is going to have to step up, David DeJesus is good out in left with vet Coco Crisp is in center, Josh Willingham also needs to step up in right, Hideki Matsui is DHing this season for the A's.

4. Seattle Mariners
They had so much promise going into last season but it just didn't pan out, and they didn't do much to improve this season. Ichiro is the star and he is back in right, DH Jack Cust and third baseman Chone Figgins is pretty much all they have batting, catching is Miguel Olivo who could be good for the Mariners, Justin Smoak is at first, Brendan Ryan is at second, and Jack Wilson is at short, Michael Saunders is in left, and Franklin Gutierrez is in center. The Mariners have a solid number 1 in the rotation Felix Hernandez and that is pretty much it for the Mariners.

It's In the Air Part 2 AL Central

Alright Part 2, time to talk American League Central, I think this might be on of the more exciting divisions this season all of the teams...except one has improved.

1. Detroit Tigers
I love their addition of Victor Martinez at catcher, even though he will probably be DH unless they play an NL team at their stadium. Even though they added Martinez I think their issue is right their behind plate. They need Availa to step up on defense and offense, if he can they will be pretty dominate. They have solid hitter Miguel Cabrera at first whose defense is improving, Carlos Guillen at second, young Jhonny Peralta is back at short, Brandon Inge is back again at third, Rayburn is in left, and rookie of the year candidate last season is back in center, and Magz is in right. The rotation looks alright Verlander is the clear number one with Matt Scherzer is number two and Rick Porcello is three, 4 and 5 I'm not blown away with to say the least Brad Penny was good once apon a time but hopefully he can get back what he had in LA and Phil Coke who was in the pen much of last season is the in the five spot. The bullpen is a strenght with Penny, Zumya when he is healthy and Valverde closing.

2. Minnesota Twins
The Twins are how they are they have Mauer and Morneau back and always strong candidates for early season MVP consideration. They have Liriano, Blackburn and Pavano holding down the rotation while Nathan and Capps man the bullpen. How good will Nathan be after his injury that should play a big role in the season. Tsuyoshi Nishioka is at second...who, well he is a newly signed player from Japan we'll see how he does in the majors. Danny Valencia is at third, he played 85 games last season batting .311 so we'll see how he does in the full season. Alexi Casilla is a young shortstop who played in just 69 games last season but batted .276 I think he play a big role as well as to how good this Twins team does. The outfield looks good, Delmon Young is in right, Denard Span is in center, Michael Cuddyer is in right while Jason Kubel will be DH for most of the season. If not Kubel you'll be seeing Jim Thome as well.

3. Chicago White Sox
These guys look good too, and could make a real case for 1st place let alone third if they can get the bats they hope for out of their position players. The rotation looks good with Buehlre, Floyd, Danks, Jackson and Peavy. The bullpen doesn't look so good, losing Jenks to Boston really hurt this team. Adam Dunn is at DH but he is a strikeout machine, AJ Piezynski is behind the plate and he is more downward then up now-a-days, same thing with first baseman Konerko, Beckham and Alexi Ramirez are good at second and short, not sure what to expect out of Brent Morel at third, the outfield has aging Juan Pierre who may of lost a step or two from his once incredible speed on the bases, Alex Rios is good in center with a strong bat as well as Carlos Quentin in right who had a down year last year.

4. Clevland Indians
This team has strong lineup and could have a strong 1 and 2 combo in the rotation. Fausto Carmona, if he can get back what he had in Minnesota, can be a solid number one with a young Masterson behind him. But if they can't be what they are expected the Indians will have to rely on their batting because their bullpen isn't going to be getting it done. Carlos Santana (former Great Lakes Loon) is a good young catcher who has a solid bat, he will be good. Jason Nix at third can be good, but he had his struggles last year, Asdrubal Cabrera is a good young shortstop, the O-Dog is helping the middle infield Orlando Cabrera can bring some veteran leadership to the infield, Matt LaPorta I don't will do very well in Clevland he is young though and has plenty room for improvment, the outfield is lead by centerfielder Grady Sizemore who will be helping young leftfield Michael Brantley, right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is good and can also provide some veteran experience.

5. Kansas City Royals
These guys will be bad. Flat out just don't expect anything from them. They lost star pitcher Zack Grienke and has nobody in the pitching staff to take over. Jason Kendall is catching, Kila Ka'aihue is at first, Chris Getz is at second, Alcides Escobar is at short, Mike Aviles should be a star on this team which is sad because that is saying how bad this team is, Alex Gordon is in left coming off a bad season, Melky Cabrera is in center and will be the star, and Jeff Francoeur is a pretty good right fielder. Billy Butler provides a good bat at DH. The Royals fans do have something positive to look at, the Royals average age is 25 years old, pretty young and could be good later on but not this season.

It's In the Air Part 1 AL East

The greatest time of the year is near. The temperature is rising and the snow is melting as the days fly of the calander getting ever so closer to April 1st. Pitchers and catchers have reported and it is time for Spring Training to begin. So now that the time is here, it is time for my spring training predictions.

AL East: 1. Boston Red Sox
Yes they got ride of Victor Martinez this offseason but I feel it was moved that needed to be made for the BoSox, Martinez is known for his bat but may be even better known for his poor defense. I believe Jarred Saltalamacchia is a good addition and can grow as a catcher with veteran Jason Varitek behind him. They also added former White Sox Bobby Jenks to the bullpen. The rotation looks pretty solid with Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, John Lackey, Clay Buchholz, and Daiskue Matsuzaka. The position starters look solid as well with David Ortiz returning at DH Adrian Gonzalez at first, Dustin Pedroia at 2nd, Marco Scutaro at short, and Kevin Youkilis at thrid, the outfield has Carl Crawford in left, Jacoby Ellsbury in center, and JD Drew in right.

2. New York Yankees
They didn't make much noise this offseason and people will say that is a disappointment. But this is still a team that at one point had the best record in the majors last season and made the playoffs...the Yankees will be fine. They kept Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter that is really all they had to do this offseason. With Sabathia Hughes and if Burnett can find his stuff that he had in Toronto the rotation looks alright, not much to brag about in the 4 and 5 spot. But they still have Jorge in the DH now as Russell Martin takes over at the plate, Mark Texiara at first, Robinson Cano at second, Derek Jeter at short, A-Rod at 3rd, Gardner is in left and seems to be the weak point in the lineup, Granderson returns to center, and Swisher is in right.

3. Baltimore Orioles
These guys have made noise this offseason and could give the Yankees a run for second. They are my suprise team this year (last year my suprise team was Texas look where that got them). They have got some good hitters this offseason by getting Vlad Guerreo at DH, Derrek Lee at first, J.J. Hardy at short and Mark Reynolds at third. Brian Roberts is a solid at second and Matt Wieters is improving behind the plate. The outfield has one of the up and coming players in the league with Adam Jones in center. They also have Luke Scott in left and Nick Markakis in right. Jermey Gunthrie is the leadman in the rotation and veteran closer Kevin Gregg is in town. Look out for the Orioles.

4. Tampa Bay Rays
I really do not like what they have done this offseason (actually I love it). The Rays parted ways with first baseman Carlos Pena and no-hitter throwing Matt Garza both to my beloved Chicago Cubs. They then added two AL East stars (in 2004) with Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez but I don't think they have what it takes anymore to be everyday starters. They still have two very strong guys in the rotation with David Price and Scott Shields, but besides that they will miss Matt Garza. As far as the lineup goes they have young Johnny Jaso behind the plate and he should do well, Dan Johnson is replacing Pena and that will hurt when Johnson brings his .198 batting average from last season, young second basemen Sean Rodriguez could do some good things this season as well should his fellow young mid infielder Reid Brignac. Of course Evan Longria is back at third, BJ Upton is good in center and Zobrist is a good right fielder.

5. Toronto Blue Jays
Oh every Toronto has seen better days. They have looked so good offseason after offseason, but this year it doesn't look good. Encarnacion is alright at DH, Jose Bautista was great last year at the plate and at third, Aaron Hill is back at second and Escobar is back at short, Adam Lind is at first and was shaky last season, J.P. Arencibia batted an awful .143 last year but it was only in 11 games. Juan Rivera is good in left and Raji Davis is coming off a .284 batting average last season, but I'm not sure about left fielder Travis Snider. I'm not a fan of the rotation that is lead by lefty Ricky Romero, and they don't have much of a bullpen to brag about.

Part 2 will feature the AL Central

What a Fun Ride

Fitting that the year before a pending lockout the NFL had its most entertaining and top grossing season ever. As an NFL fan it was the greatest season ever, every week left you scratching your head and the term Any Given Sunday (great movie by the way) never rang trurer than it did this season
These were the top 20 stories of the season I thought. So many things went down I had to make it 20, 15 let alone 10 just couldn't cut it.

20. NFL Draft switched to primetime and is now three days long, Sam Bradford is first pick by the Rams

19. Randy Moss is relased by the New England Patriots, then picked up by his first team the Minnesota Vikings, then he was traded to the Tennessee Titans were he still didn't make a difference

18. Will Brett Favre return for 2010 season...answer yes...kinda

17. Julius Peppers goes to Chi-town

16. Mike Martz also goes to Chi-town to help Jay Cutler

15. Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco team up in Cincinnati

14. Peyton Hillis become first relavent white running back in pretty much forever

13. Lions begin their winning ways and end regular season with longest WINNING streak in NFC

12. Minnesota roof collapses and moves Monday Night game to Detroit making it two straight primetime games held in Detroit that didn't involve the Lions (Super Bowl XL and Giants vs Vikings Monday Night)

11. Brett Favre goes through rough season and losses games started streak at 297 regular season games

10. No winning record in NFC West

9. Rules rules rules, NFL to maybe lengthen season, changes the rules of completion or incompletion this offseason, cracking down on tackling by leading with helmets
